MARCH QTR KEY POINTS


ESTABLISHED HOUSE PRICES

QUARTERLY CHANGES

  • The price index for established houses in Australia increased 0.2% in the March quarter 2005, compared with an increase of 0.6% in the December quarter 2004.
  • House prices rose in Darwin (+3.8%), Canberra (+2.6%), Adelaide (+2.3%), Perth (+2.1%), Brisbane (+0.5%) and Hobart (+0.5%), remained unchanged in Sydney and fell in Melbourne (-1.6%).


ANNUAL CHANGES
  • Over the twelve months to March quarter 2005, established house prices rose 0.4%. It was the lowest annual increase since the March quarter 1996.
  • Annually, house prices increased in: Perth (+9.9%), Darwin (+9.6%), Adelaide (+8.0%), Hobart (+3.2%) and Brisbane (+2.5%). House prices fell in Sydney (-3.4%), Melbourne (-1.7%) and Canberra (-1.3%).
